Recognition of top achievers

The Gauteng East Education district held a curriculum award ceremony at the Springs Civic Centre last Wednesday.

It was held in honour of the learners, matriculants of 2014, principals and teachers who contributed to the district's 81.2% pass rate.

District director Maureen Mthimunye says the recognition is due to the sacrifice and commitment the learners, staff and parents made to ensure learners achieve the best.

The top learners district competition winner Elma Machebele from Khombindlela Primary School received the maths Olympiad award.

Limbokuhle Mathebula, Charmaine Moloto, Sifiso Sompa, Baby Boshielo and Ntokozo Sithole are Grade Nine learners from Mammelong Comprehensive School who each received a technology quiz certificate.

Teachers Ammie Mnguni and Nkosinathi Namba from Mammelong Comprehensive School received top educators technology quiz awards.

In the secondary schools category 14 Kwatsaduza schools were honoured: Mammelong Comprehensive School, Zimisele Secondary School, Langaville Secondary School, Tsakane Secondary School, Geluksdal Secondary School, Kenneth Masekela Secondary School, Lefa-Ifa Secondary School, MOM Seboni Secondary School, Laban Motlhabi Secondary School, Nkumbulo Secondary School, Phulong Secondary School, Tholulwazi Secondary School, Esbonelwesihle Secondary School and Buhlebemfundo Secondary School

Top educators from Geluksdal Secondary School, Kenneth Masekela Secondary School, Tsakane Secondary School, Lefa-Ifa Secondary School and Langaville Secondary School received awards for geography, physical science, tourism, SeTswana, SeSotho, IsiZulu, maths, English and life science.

Top learners from Laban Motlhabi Secondary School, MOM Seboni Secondary School, Mammelong Comprehensive SchoolNkumbulo Secondary School, Phulong Secondary School, Tsakane Secondary School, Tolulwazi Secondary School, Esibonelwesihle Secondary School, Buhlebenfundo Secondary School and Nkumbulo Secondary School received certificates per subject.

In the top 10 learners category the following learners received a minimum of six distinctions and a high average mark:

Thabisile Khoza from Phulong Secondary School, Thabang Ramothibe from Esibonelwesihle Secondary School and Thabang Tshabalala from MOM Seboni Secondary School.

They all received a trophy, laptop and a certificate handed over to them by Maureen.

In the adult education and training category the top centre is Vunanimfundo.

Lydia Kwebu is the top learner at the KwaThema Adult Centre with six distinctions.

The top learner at the KwaThema College is Lebohang Mazibuko.

Jumaima Kubheka, Mamphedi Mampuru and Raymond Njenge from the KwaThema Adult Education and Training Centre are the top adult life orientation educators.

Maureen says the department wishes the 2015 matriculates the best.
