Issy FC hopes for an easy win

After winning the Ekurhuleni Festive Tournament, Issy FC is looking forward to the Champ of Champs Tournament.

The team was formed last year with the aim to keep young people of KwaThema interested in sports.

The majority of the players in the team are residents of ward 78.

Team founder Isareal Mabe said winning the festive tournament in which 28 teams took part was a great achievement for his team.

He said because of the team’s dedication, unity and respect they managed to be crowned the tournament’s champions after beating Amapansula FC by 1-0.

“The tournament has a history of being won by the teams that play in local leagues, but we showed the community that our team is also alive regardless of not affiliating with any league,” said team’s coach Molefe Mafunda.

He said the condition of the playing ground at Masimini section where they do their training sessions will not affect his team’s success.

He added that his team’s intention is to defend the floating trophy.

PRO Sibusiso Ratsela thanked the KwaThema community for the support the team received from them during the tournament.

He promised soccer fans that the team will come home with another victory from the Champ of Champs tournament to be held during the Easter holidays in Germiston.

“We are ready to take on the teams from other regions within Ekurhuleni and be crowned the tournament’s champions,” he concluded.

On behalf of all the ward councillors in KwaThema, Councillor Wilson Busakwe congratulated the team on its victory and encouraged them to keep up the good work.

Players who are interested in joining the team are invited to visit the team’s club house at 5 Khumbuza Street in KwaThema.
