Amandele wants to end illegal initiation schools

Amandebele Werholweni in Kwatsaduza say they want to revive their culture and teach the youth about their heritage.

The Amandebele Werholweni is a non profit cultural group aimed at promoting the Amandebele culture.

Kwatsaduza chairman, Mandla Mabena says the group consists of men and women with the aim to develop and protect the Ndebele art, culture and heritage in and around Kwatsaduza.

“We want to emphasise the use of the Ndebele language especially by the youth,” said Mabena.

He adds that the group is mainly focusing on educating about the importance of going to an initiation school.

He says, because many young boys die while in initiation school, Amandebele want to ensure that the boys and the men who run these schools receive all the information that they need.

“We also want to fight against the illegal initiation schools that take the lives of our children and have others ending up losing their manhood,” says Mabena.

He concludes by saying that the group welcomes anyone who wants to join.
