East Rand School of Art festival

The East Rand School of the Arts in Benoni hosted its 15 years of arts festival celebration.

The school held the annual arts festival on Friday evening where parents and learners filled the school’s hall to witness the good work done by the learners at that school.

On the day, the learners were given a platform to exhibit their talents in music, fashion designing and drawing.

Maurice Mogashoa, one of the event’s organisers said the event was aimed at showcasing the work and creativity of the learners to the public.

“The school wants to ensure that the talent for the learners is first exposed to the areas where they live,” said Mogashoa.

One of the learners whose art work was exhibited on the day, Siyabonga Thenjekwayo (17) from Slovo Park explained that his work is about his background and the nature.

He says to do his work, he is inspired by his teachers and the people around him who believe in him.

“I lost my parents when I was still young, however that will not stand in my way of becoming the best artist that I want to be,” said Siyabonga.

He thanked the school for the opportunity to allow them to showcase their work to the public.

He said the feedback from the public about their work will encourage them to work hard and fight to achieve their dreams.
