Robbers steal cell phones

Two cases of business robberies were opened at the Springs Police Station.

In the first case a shop was robbed in Third Street, in the Springs Central Business District (CBD) on Friday.

A man entered the shop pretending to buy something.

While serving him at 9.45am, another man entered and pointed a gun at her.

Captain Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says they ordered her to give them the safe keys.

The woman could not give them the keys as they are not kept on the premises.

One robber asked for money and she opened the till.

Ramphora says the armed robber ordered the woman to put the money into a plastic bag.

The two robbers took the woman to where a third robber allegedly guarded an employee in an office at the back of the shop.

They took the money and several cell phones before they left.

The second robbery took place at 9.20pm, in First Avenue, Bakerton.

A man was at a tavern and while walking towards the door he closed the security gate behind him.

Ramphora says this man was allegedly approached by two armed men.

While pointing their guns at him, five more armed men entered the tavern.

Two of the robbers searched the victim and took his cell phone, wallet and car keys.

The other robbers proceeded to the counter and took cash from the till, airtime and liquor.

Ramphora says the saleswoman’s cell phone was also taken from her.

On their way out, the robbers slapped the man in his face and threw his car keys and wallet back at him.

No shots were fired in any of the above cases.
