Taxi seats are ruined

About four taxi seats were ruined, allegedly by an impatient passenger.

While others were watching the Wafa-Wafa final game between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday night, the driver of the taxi, Christopher Mkhulwane, was worried about how to break the heartbreaking news to his boss.

The taxi was travelling from the Springs station taxi rank to KwaThema.

According to Mkhulwane, while the vehicle was waiting for more passengers, others who were already inside complained that they were in a hurry to go home to watch the game.

“I was surprised when I while waiting to get petrol from the garage, after delivering all the passengers to their destinations, noticed that four seats were ruined,” said Mkhulwane.

Springs Taxi Association PRO Thomas Kabini appealed for tolerance from the passengers.

“We understand that sometimes the passengers need to be at their destination at a particular time, but the situation such as waiting for more passengers to fill a taxi, force our drivers to wait at a taxi rank,” said Kabini.

Klaas Tjie, taxi rank marshal, also discouraged the act of damaging a taxi.

“We appeal to the passengers to work together with the drivers to ensure safe arrival and the protection of the taxis,” said Tjie.

Themba Mdluli, from KwaThema, who depends on a taxi to travel to and from work every day, also encouraged the passengers to avoid destroying the taxis.

“It is true that the majority of the workers from KwaThema depend on a public transport,” he said.

He concluded by appealing to all those who use public transport to report any act of violence towards the taxis and the drivers.
