Slindile wins Gauteng Marathon

She was one of the 12 athletes from the Kwatsaduza Athletics Club who qualified to take part in the SA championships.

Slindile Saba-saba (18) won the Gauteng Marathon.

She was one of the 12 athletes from the Kwatsaduza Athletics Club who qualified to take part in the SA championships, competing with athletes from different areas in Gauteng on Sunday at the Johannesburg Stadium.

Slindile got the first position on the junior athlete category while obtaining the third position on the 10km Women’s Open.

She received a total cash prize of R 3 500.

Slindile said because she trained hard to prepare for the marathon, she wanted to win but not only for the club but for the residents of Kwatsaduza.

“I went there to compete and have fun, however, bringing home victory was one of my aims in the competition,” said Slindile.

She thanked her coaches for the training and the encouragement that they gave her and other athletes in the club.
