Ambulance smashed

One of the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services ambulances has been damaged by community members at Tsakane Extension 12.

According to Ekurhuleni disaster and emergency services media liaison officer, William Ntladi, the incident took place at 12.50am on Sunday.

He says the paramedics responded to a call to help a patient who had been shot, and rushed to the scene.

“On arrival, the crew found a gunshot patient laying in the open veld and started with treatment,” says Ntladi.

He added that while the paramedics were still busy helping the patient, they heard loud bangs and the shattering of glass.

He says the ambulance and five police vehicles on the scene were damaged and the patient had to be rushed to Pholosong Hospital for treatment.

“We condemn the action by those individuals as their action puts more pressure on quality service delivery to the community,” says Ntladi.

He explains that the area is now one ambulance short.

At the time of going to press, Tsakane police spokesman Captain Petros Mabuza could not confirm the incident.
