Desperate man becomes robbers’ victim

A man who was desperate for a lift was robbed by the people he thought were helping him.

Captain Johannes Ramphora of the Springs police says the man, who was from Bedfordview, was dropped off by a car that gave him a lift at an off-ramp to Etwatwa from the N12.

He says the man waited for another lift to Etwatwa/Daveyton when an Uno showed up and the driver who was with two passengers agreed to give him a lift as he said they were going in the same direction.

“The man got into the car and on the way the two suspects armed with firearms demanded money from him,” says Ramphora, adding that the suspects robbed the man of his wallet and dropped him off at an open space where they instructed him to kneel down and pray.

The man was surprised to notice that the robbers were gone when he opened his eyes after praying.

A case of armed robbery has been opened and no arrests have been made yet.
