Live music promoted in KwaThema

Taking KwaThema on a musical trip

An initiative promoting live music performance reached KwaThema on Sunday.

Experimental Jazz was performed at Da Venue, by the four-member band called “The Trip”, amongst them SAMA nominee drummer, Tumi Mogorosi.

Tumi said their music performed by vocalist Gabisile Motuba, guitar player Nelius Nortje and Ariel Zamonsky on double bass, is about social change and raises issues that encourage dialogue.

Violet Maila, project co-ordinator at Concert SA, said they are expanding the initiative from the the main cities of Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.

She said their aim is to create a live music circuit in South Africa, while also giving skills and development to music promoters.

Violet added that they also visit schools, to expose learners to instruments, educating them that music is not just electronic.

The programme assists young artists to get gigs, and has been running since 2013.

It is a collaboration between Concert SA, Southern African Music Rights Organisation Foundation and Royal Norway Embassy.
