Sammy Monyane dies at 42

Love for life and sport cut short

Sammy Sefara Monyane’s body was discovered on June 27. He is believed to have been murdered.

He was born in 1972 in Heidelberg, before moving to Duduza.

Sammy started his schooling at Thakgalang Lower Primary School, before moving to Mmuso Primary School.

It was during his days as a learner at NN Ndebele High School that he was introduced to the game of softball.

He later joined Duduza Heroes Softball Club and was also selected to play for Eastern Gauteng squad.

At the time of his death, he served the community as the second president of Duduza Sports Council.

He was also a public relations officer for Tsetse-fly Duduza Softball Club.

Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department employed him as a security officer at the Duduza Customer Care Centre.

His previous work included volunteering at the South African National Defence Force and SAPS.

He leaves behind his life partner, three children and two sisters.

His funeral will be at Duduza Multipurpose Centre tomorrow (June 28) at 9am, before moving to the Vlakfontein Cemetery.
