St Mary’s is relocating

Moms-to-be can welcome their new babies into the world at St Mary’s Women’s Clinic which will be relocated into a brand new wing of Life Springs Parkland Clinic on July 1.

Life Springs Parkland Clinic will be given a complete facelift with a refurbishment and expansion project currently underway.

The expansion project includes the relocation of the St Mary’s Women’s Clinic, currently located off-site in Springs Extension, to the brand new maternity wing which has been added onto Parklands.

The new St Mary’s Wing will have 36 beds supported by a 10-bed neo-natal intensive care unit, with two new theatres, three delivery rooms and a luxurious water birthing facility.

The unit will have a rooming-in policy. Mothers will be taught how to manage and care for their new babies before they go home.

The neo-natal unit will boast the latest in modern technology and equipment with centralised monitoring.

Dr Tebogo Mphake, hospital manager, says adjacent to the neo-natal unit will be a two-bedded kangaroo mother care facility where mothers of premature babies can stay over to learn more about managing and caring for their premature babies, under the supervision of trained neonatal specialists.

Furthermore the new St Mary’s Wing will include a luxurious family room where fathers will have the opportunity to stay over with their new family in the comfort of a private environment. This is subject to availability and booking is essential.

The new St. Mary’s Wing will open its doors on July 1.

“We welcome all expectant moms and dads to come and see our exciting new facility and to book their beds in advance,” he says.

Further upgrades to the existing Life Springs Parkland Clinic facility will commence in August.

The current facility’s wards will be refurbished and refreshed with additional en-suite bathrooms added to the wards.

He adds the new modern facility will include HD TVs at each bed, with DStv.

Parkland will grow from its existing 184 beds to a new total of 247 beds.

“This expansion project will not only result in improved capacity for the hospital but will also introduce new state-of-the-art technology and equipment to help deliver world-class healthcare service to our patients,” concludes Mphake.
