Using certificates to inspire

Good work deserves reward

Tandi Sibeko Secondary School in Duduza hosted its second annual top matric achievers award programme.

The event recognises the three best learners in each of the 14 subjects available at the school.

Deputy principal Moyeni Skosana, said their aim is to inspire those who didn’t receive anything, and urge the top achievers to work harder.

Teachers also wear their graduation gowns on the day, with one educator motivating the learners before handing out the certificates.

The highest percentages belonged to Tholakele Tsotetsi (92%), Nancy Tsotetsi (91% business studies), Kutlwano Mofokeng (92%), Mbali Langa (91% geography) and Kagiso Mosebedi (91% life orientation).

The school managed to increase its matric pass from 40% in 2012 to 61% in 2013 and Moyeni says although their target is 100%, they will not settle for anything less than an 80% matric pass rate this year.
