Innocentia invited to the One Young World Summit in Dublin

Concerned about important issues

Innocentia Sibanyoni says she wasted no time when she saw the application process was opened for those interested in being part of the One Young World Summit in Dublin, Ireland.

The 23-year-old Vergenoeg resident has been selected as a representative of South Africa in the summit taking place from October 15 to 19.

One Young World is a charity organisation from the United Kingdom that organises the annual summit, which brings together young people from around the world.

Innocentia says social economic issues such as youth unemployment, will be the focus of this summit.

“The one question constantly asked is whether the youth is lazy, the answer is both yes and no, because there are other factors such as lack of access to information and resources that holds people back,” adds Innocentia.

Reasons given by One Young World Summit for selecting Innocentia, describe her as an “outstanding candidate with leadership capacity, concern about global issues, ability to generate and articulate impactful ideas, teamwork and evidenced commitment to volunteering and other extracurricular activities”.

The 2013 Summit was held in Johannesburg, and attended by more than 1 000 delegates from 190 countries aged between 18 and 30.

The trip will cost Innocentia more than R50 000.

She has already approached the Department of Economic Development and the National Youth Development Agency for funding while she tries to think of other ways to raise the money before the June closing date passes.
