Fire rips through Tsakane home.

Sisters survive house fire

It was a bad start to the week for a family in Nzima Street, Tsakane.

A fire, which they say started in their electricity box, damaged their home on Monday morning.

Queen Ledwaba is one of the occupants of the house, she says they smelled smoke coming from the box on Sunday evening.

They woke up with the intention of going to report the problem in the local electricity office.

However, while they prepared themselves, they noticed sparks coming from the box, which is in one of the bedrooms.

“We called the electricity office, while my sister was on the phone the fire started,” explains Queen.

Three sisters aged between 10 and 27 years where in the home when the fire broke out, and were fortunate to escape unharmed.

The fire department was called to the scene, and Brakpan and Duduza managed to reach the scene before the Tsakane department, which took much longer to arrive.

Queen says when they asked the Tsakane firefighters what caused their delay, they were told ‘no-one had a code 14 to be able to drive the fire truck’.

No comment was provided by the metro at the time of going to print.
