17 illegal miners arrested
The Springs police arrested 17 illegal miners in a huge operation held in Daggafontein on Tuesday.
Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora, says the operation was mainly focused on Daggafontein.
According to the captain there are a lot of illegal mining activities going on in that area.
“We have arrested 17 illegal miners,” he says.
The illegal miners are charged with possession of precious metals, dealing in precious metals and trespassing.
A green Isuzu bakkie was also confiscated as well as a lot of mining equipment including two generators used to pump out water, wheelbarrows, spades and other equipment used by these miners.
They appeared in court last Wednesday but the case has been postponed to today (Thursday).
