Tsakani’s Ekurhuleni School of Music is a home for the musically gifted
The school caters for children as young as eight years and is open every weekday from 09:00 to 16:00.
Tsakani – The Ekurhuleni School of Music exists to discover, nurture and train the musically talented.
Established in 2015 by a group of six, including Tebogo Moeketsi, the school provides training and music education for performers.
“The school is open to everyone who wants to learn. We mostly deal with people who have never even touched an instrument. You don’t have to know anything about music to come here,” explained Moeketsi, the school’s director.
The NPO offers training in singing, piano, guitar, drums and bass guitar.
Moeketsi was trained at the Mbira School of Music and Arts, and the watchful eye of Banzi Bangani and Mmeli Gxowa. He also studied through the Royal School of Music.
“I know this programme is important because I understand the frustration of wanting to learn about music but not afford to pay for lessons.
“We are here to provide a great service, and most of our students cannot pay for it,” he added.
However, Moeketsi said he has never allowed a lack of funding to deter them from teaching.
“We use what we have when we have it,” he said.
The school is affiliated with colleges where their students write exams and acquire certifications.
“Education and training are important; no matter how talented, because it gives you exposure and a safe space to explore your talent.
“There is so much more to music than performance. That is why I would encourage everyone interested to come,” he added.
The school caters for children as young as eight years and is open every weekday from 09:00 to 16:00. They operate from Faranani Multipurpose Centre.
