Kids dream big on career day at Masimini Primary School

Selepi Themba organised a career day at Masimini Primary School to give learners a close look at various careers that connect their learning path to the real world.

Kwa-Thema – Former Masimini Primary School learner Selepi Themba organised a career day at the school for the Grade Sevens on September 19.

She said the idea had been her greatest desire for the longest time, saying the aim was to motivate, inspire and educate Grade Seven learners in preparation for high school.

“I was born and raised in Kwa-Thema, and all I wanted to do was to uplift children in my community.

“The goal was to provide the learners with knowledge based on various careers we have in the real world of work and offer eye-opening opportunities and advice.

“I know this gave the learners hope that they can work hard enough to be whatever they aspire to be,” said Themba.

She mentioned that she hopes her initiative becomes an ongoing one which will grow to reach other schools.

Themba had a panel of guest speakers, which included an engineer, a journalist, a lawyer, an advocate, a pharmacist and a public administrator, who gave detailed information based on their careers.

Life orientation teacher and school principal Mbuso Ndlela said he is grateful to have had Themba come on board by organising such an informative day for the learners at the school.

“This shows there is a serious need for former learners to come and contribute their skills to the school and learners.

“The career day helped the learners dream about their future while at their primary level. It will assist the learners to stay focused and want to achieve their goals,” Ndlela added.
