Seamstresses open doors with sewing lessons

Founder Mapule Mashifane said the initiative they are creating is to try and combat unemployment through the provision of sewing skills.

Kwa-Thema – Arise and Shine NPO has opened its doors to the community of Kwatsaduza by offering sewing lessons to people of all ages and genders.

Founder Mapule Mashifane said the initiative they are creating is to try and combat unemployment through the provision of sewing skills.

“We are willing to teach people all the skills they need for them to be able to sew, be it to repair something torn or to design/ make something from scratch.

“Offering sewing lessons will help those who want to learn new skills, those who want to start their businesses and those who want to explore a new world of work.

“We are dedicating our time to transfer skills. We aim to try and alleviate poverty through classes that will run from Monday to Wednesday from 08:00 until 13:00,” she said.

She added that registration is open until September 13 and classes will commence on September 16. She also mentioned that their initiative needs assistance through donations or sponsorship towards their sewing classes.

“Most people who will be joining our classes do not have money to buy sewing material. We need sewing materials such as needles, threads, fabric and machinery.

“Small donations from the public would contribute dearly to this initiative. Such donations will benefit this project beautifully. I plead with the community to help where possible,” she added

Community members can register for the classes at the Kwa-Thema Skills Centre. Alternatively, they can enquire with Mashifane on 073 061 5464 or through email at arisenshineNPO@gmail.com.
