The Springs SAPS, in collaboration with liquor outlet owners, treated pensioners from Springs and Kwa-Thema to lunch on Tuesday.

Forty seniors were given the chance to interact with one another and simply enjoy a delicious lunch. Captain Nozipho Mapukata said they succeeded in making it a memorable experience for the senior citizens.

“Our senior citizens are the pillars of our communities, therefore, it was important to acknowledge them and the contribution that they’re making to our society,” said Mapukata.

“We must care for our senior citizens and always ensure that they remain safe and well looked after during their twilight years.”

Mapukata said they believed there was no better way to do this than to love and pamper the elders.

Springs and Kwa-Thema senior citizens were delighted to be treated to lunch.

Speaking on behalf of the senior citizens, Mzimkhulu Khumalo, chairperson of the Ekurhuleni East Older Persons Forum, said they were happy to be considered and thanked the organisations.

“Throughout the years, we’ve had a great working relationship with our local police and we truly hope that we will continue doing so.”

He thanked former Springs SAPS station commander Brigadier Thembeka Gwebushe for everything she has done for them and the Springs community.

“Your honesty and service to the community have been evident,” said Khumalo.

Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala said it was a special day.

“We are proud of our members and other stakeholders for the generous gesture of giving back to the older generation, which is often forgotten about.”
