Grade One Tsakani learner dies in another suspected food poisoning incident

A Grade One learner from Mandlethu Primary School has died after eating biscuits allegedly purchased from a spaza shop.

According to the Gauteng Department of Education, the learner died today (Tuesday) at school.

It is reported the girl started feeling unwell while in class, before break time.

She started vomiting, and the school contacted her parents.

Emergency services were also alerted and the child was certified dead by paramedics.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The GDE’s Psycho-Social Unit will provide trauma support and counselling to those affected.
