Waste collection resumes

Service providers have been instructed to collect extra refuse bags.

Kwatsaduza – Waste removal services have been restored in Ekurhuleni East, which experienced an interruption for the better part of last week.
CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said, “Solid waste trucks are out and about rendering the service and addressing the backlog created in areas such as Tsakani, Duduza, Kwa-Thema, Langaville, Wattville and Actonville when service providers pulled out due to a misunderstanding about payments.”
Dlamini said the service providers returned to work on Tuesday and will continue work, adding extra hours to cover the backlog and ensure that services are normalised as soon as possible.
“Efforts are underway to restore the service in Daveyton and Etwatwa by Thursday,” he said.
According to Dlamini, service providers have told to collect extra refuse bags, including the 240l bins, considering there were no waste removal services on some days.
“Meanwhile, the city’s digital platforms and ward councillors will communicate additional information regarding the current situation and developments,” he added.
