Activist speaks against the abuse of women and children

“We urge community members and survivors to speak out on any abuse they are experiencing.”

GBV activist Refiloe Mcina writes:

The 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign was initiated at the inauguration of the Women Global Leadership Institution in 1991.

It is a call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and children. GBV is escalating in our society, and our focus is mainly on sexual violations and physical abuse.

We often forget about online harassment, psychological violence and hate crimes. We urge community members and survivors to speak out on any abuse they are experiencing.

You may not be the victim, but if you are aware of abuse happening in your community, you have a responsibility to report the matter.

We live with perpetrators who were not exposed. Some are not exposed because they are providers. Children living with disabilities and orphans are always taken advantage of because of their vulnerability.

Sexual violations have psychological effects on minors and adults. The psychological effects include depression, self-blame, sleep disorders and anger.

The effects of rape may include physical trauma, urinary tract infections, STDs and pregnancy. It is everyone’s responsibility to respect every person and stop violence.
