Joe Nina honours his mother through song

The single was released in August in celebration of women’s month.

Kwa-Thema – Award-winning musician Joe Nina has released a single titled Mama to honour his mother Mabore Lettie Makgoro.

The kwaito musician said though he has been in the industry for decades, he realised he has never written a song to honour his mother and all the mothers.

He released the single in August in celebration of Women’s Month.

The musician said he wrote the song when he moved home in June, when Kwa-Thema was experiencing extended electricity outages.

“Through this song, I wanted to show my mother gratitude, tell her I love and appreciate her for what she has done and still does for me and my family.

“Mothers play a vital role in our lives, though sometimes we fail to recognise their contributions. At my age, I still turn to my mother for advice and other domestic help when the need arises,” he added.

The musician added he hoped people would play this song during Mother’s Day and Women’s Month to celebrate women.

The musician is currently working with four musicians, Mabusi, Babsy Mlangani, Boitumelo and Hullabaloos from Ekurhuleni as part of his contribution to community development. The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) is funding the project through the Ximilani fund.

“This is the beginning of a bigger project to give back to my community and Ekurhuleni through identifying talent, recording their songs and releasing them under my label, Killatunes.

“There is a lot of talent in this community and I am here to help unleash it,” he added.

The EP is available on all online music distribution platforms.
