SAPS take illegal gun off streets

Ekurhuleni police spokesperson Captain Nelda Sekgobela said the suspect was found with a silver 9mm pistol.

Tsakani – A 25-year-old man was arrested on the corner of Caldonia and Uitog roads in Geluksdal for possession of an unlicensed firearm on Thursday.

The arrest came after SAPS Crime Intelligence members received information about an individual with an unlicensed gun.

On Friday, the Ekurhuleni SAPS spokesperson, Captain Neldah Sekgobela, said an intelligence-driven operation was conducted in the area with the members of Tsakane Crime Prevention.

“The suspect was found with a silver 9mm pistol and was arrested and detained at the Tsakane SAPS. The suspect appeared before the Tsakani Magistrate’s Court facing a charge of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm,” she said.

Ekurhuleni district commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole, encouraged members to continue swiftly responding whenever they received information about unlicensed firearms to save citizens in the district.
