EMPD officer recovers hijacked SUV in Kwa-Thema

“The owner of the house, an elderly female aged 60, alleged that she assumes the vehicle might have been dropped by one of the grandchildren. The grandchildren were nowhere to be found,” she said.

Kwa-Thema – A hijacked white Toyota Hilux Special Utility Vehicle (SUV) was recovered by members of EMPD Tsakane Precinct on Wednesday.

While performing their normal duties, the officers received a tip-off from a vehicle tracking company regarding the location of a reported hijacked vehicle.

EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa said the information was followed up and the officers were led to a yard in the area.

“A car matching the description of the hijacked vehicle was found.

“The owner of the house, an elderly female aged 60, alleged that she assumes the grandchildren were involved. They were nowhere to be found,” she said.

It is alleged that the vehicle was hijacked on Tuesday in the Tsakane area.

“The victim’s cellphone was also robbed by the hijackers.

“The owner was kidnapped with the vehicle and later dumped on the N3 highway,” added Thepa.

The owner opened a case docket at the Zonkezizwe Police Station. The investigation continues.
