University warms hearts with uniforms and school shoes

A total of 78 children from Daggafontein and Kwasa informal Settlements received full school uniforms on Wednesday.

Children from the Daggafontein and Kwasa informal settlements now have one thing less to worry about when it comes to their schooling.

This comes after the Student Governance and Leadership Development (SGLD) at the Tshwane University of Technology donated 78 pairs of school shoes and uniforms to them on Wednesday afternoon.

The campaign was initiated to help and prevent learners from dropping out of school because they did not have school uniforms.

“We want to give a child hope to go to school comfortably and be encouraged to go to school, finish school and make something better of their lives,” said Mahlale Mokoena, administrative assistant of SGLD.

The donations were made by the Student Governance and Leadership Development at the Tshwane University of Technology.

The children were identified by the Daggafontein Community Desk (DCD) which works closely with the youth in the area, with some of the children being involved in brotherhood and sisterhood programmes.

Ofentse Rakhudu, the DCD public relations and marketer, said children without school uniforms sometimes do not feel they belong in a school environment.

“It is my hope and wish that the seed that we have planted in their lives will speak volumes to them,” said Rakhudu.

“They will have a sense of belonging and overcome all other youth challenges that they face.”
