Tsakani – The MEC of Finance, Jacob Mamabolo, handed over edutainers to the Tshepo Hope and Counselling Centre ECD on Monday.
Standard Bank of South Africa Limited, in partnership with the Gauteng Provincial Treasury, donated the items to promote education and literacy, focusing on early-learning opportunities for children.

At the event, they handed over new ablution facilities and a 5 000l water storage tank, repaired leaks on the ridge of the roof, which they painted, erected drywall, installed shelving, and gardened and cleaned the centre.

Advocate Palesa Ncholo said the centre opened 27 years ago in response to the HIV/Aids pandemic.
“We offered home-based care services and soon identified that children were also affected by the scourge. We decided to open the centre to cater for their needs while their parents fought for their health.
“To date, we have provided for children in the ECD level and after-school programmes,” she added.
The initiative was part of the 67 minutes for Mandela, a global event encouraging people to share with those less fortunate in memory of the late Nelson Mandela.
Mamabolo encouraged residents to ask themselves how they could make a difference in their communities.
“If Nelson Mandela could make a difference while confined to a prison cell, why can’t we?
“Let us all join hands to make a difference and build this community one brick at a time,” he added.
Mamabolo urged residents to protect the facility from vandalism and criminals.
“During community protests, we know residents tend to torch and vandalise public facilities. This facility is meant to benefit the children in the community,” he added.
