Tsakani model use plastic bags to design clothes

Bafana determined to stamp his name on international brands through streetwear fashion and design.

Tsakani – Bafana Mbatha is a streetwear model and sneaker enthusiast, and he designs his own clothes. The 31-year-old Tsakani-born model started his modelling career six years ago.

Bafana said he started small because the streetwear industry is sometimes challenging to break into.

“I believed in myself and my craft and I kept pushing. I also knew my up-cycle work stood a chance in this industry,” said the model.

He added that being a streetwear model to him means turning everything into fashionable clothes including plastic bags.

Bafana revealed that he recently worked on a campaign with Nike and said he has mixed feelings about the experience.

“I don’t even know how I feel about this. It’s so overwhelming because I never thought I would get this far where I am working with big brands like Nike.

“I am proud of myself and I hope I will get more collaborations with big brands,” said Bafana.

The model highlighted that streetwear can be versatile in terms of styling so when you want to make it, be yourself at all times and do things that work for you. He said he wants to introduce his up-cycled fashion to international streets.
