Skom Boys Mkhulus Club encourages regular health check-ups for men

Skom Boys Mkhulus shine a light on health issues.

Kwa-Thema – Skom Boys Mkhulus Club staged a Men’s Health Indaba on Saturday afternoon.

The event was attended by participants from Kwatsaduza and Geluksdal. The session offered the participants an opportunity to ask questions relating to their health challenges.

The keynote speaker was Dr Stan Leketile, who spoke about men’s health issues including prostate cancer, diabetes, erectile dysfunction and high blood pressure.

Leketile shared information based on his medical experience, especially on how the participants can lead a healthy lifestyle, avoid some chronic illnesses and the importance of adhering to treatment.

One of the participants shared that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2011 and underwent surgery and he is now cancer-free.

Jason Mahlare, a member of the Skom Boys Mkhulus Club said, “The core value of the club is for the mkhulus to age gracefully by being lifelong students so that they can share skills and knowledge amongst themselves.

“The club normally undertakes excursions every two years to various areas, such as Durban and Kruger National Park. This year they will be undertaking a trip to Eswatini,” he said.

Mahlare said that they put aside a monthly sum of R400 and they are also calling for more like-minded men to join them.
