Ensure your child’s safety

Police are encouraging parents to safeguard their children during the festive season.

Tsakani – Tsakani police spokesperson Sergeant Lerato Mngomezulu shared some tips for parents to ensure their children’s safety during the festive season.

Parents are encouraged to always know where their child is, what they are wearing and who they are with.

“It is important to know your child’s friends including names, addresses and telephone numbers.

“Teach your children their names, address, your name and telephone number and encourage them not to trust strangers,” she said.

Mngomezulu added that children should not agree to accompany anyone if not instructed by their parents and should never accept gifts from strangers.

“Always remind your children to tell you if there are any suspicious cars or people following them.

“Parents don’t have to wait 24 hours to report a missing child. The case should be reported immediately to your local police station,” she added.

When you go to the police station to report a missing child, take a recent photograph of the child with you.

“Give a good description of what the child was wearing, their last whereabouts and information that may help the police.

“ As soon as the child returns home, you’ll have to go to the police station to report that the child was found,” she added.
