Nkoli’s new book touches on social issues

The book speaks to the current state of our country and the challenges faced by young people and women.

Kwatsaduza – Author Karabo Nkoli launched his new book titled Conscious In Crisis on Saturday.

According to the author, the book confronts issues in society that people only whisper about.

“Baring the wounds of a rape culture in the country, exploitation of young women by older men (blessers) and neo-colonialism of countries.

“And the continent as a result of China’s growing influence in Africa through questionable loans with exploitative agreements, the state of violence and killings in schools.

“It also highlights the importance of the value women plays in the upliftment of society,” he said.

Nkoli added the book also touches on how ubuntu remains a fundamental moral compass for society, challenges citizens to contribute to the change they seek in the country and how the current generation must rise to find and fill its mission amidst the struggles it faces.

An attendee, Rethabile Kgosietsile, said the launch was informative.

“Especially on the issues, we are currently facing as a country and the causes of them. It was an eye-opening session and I think it’s safe to say that before the launch, I was not aware of most things that were discussed,” said Kgosietsile.

Another attendee Dimakatso Mahlaba said, “When Nkoli spoke about rape, I had mixed feelings because out of all things that are happening in our country rape affects women the most.

“I always try to understand how it can be prevented and I have been asking myself why is it so hard for these cases to decrease.

“The launch made me realise that young people have to change their mindset to become conscious beings,” she said.
