Workshop empowers people with disabilities with business skills

People living with disabilities are encouraged to venture into business.

Kwatsaduza – Entrepreneurs living with disabilities were empowered on how to grow their business last Wednesday.
This was during the service day for Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) hosted by the City of Ekurhuleni at Faranani Multipurpose Hall in Tsakane.
Entrepreneurs were encouraged to visit the site www.gep.co.za for more information and walk-ins are open for all informal traders at 188 Victoria Street in Germiston.

Phumelile Tshiredo from the GEP explained that there are abundant opportunities, which are not always readily accessible to people living with disabilities.
The metro partnered with IBASA by paying for services they render, such as business development, mentorship and skill development programmes.
According to the Small Enterprise Development Agency’s 2021 quarterly update, SMMEs provide about 9.8 million jobs in South Africa, constituting about 64% of total employment.
Entrepreneurs that are interested in finding out about available opportunities can contact the city’s Women, Children Directorate on 011 999 1033 or email Babongile.Duku@ekurhuleni.gov.za
