Police minister concerned about murder crime stats

33 cases of rape registered in Tsakani in three months

Tsakani – On Friday afternoon, the Minister of Police, Bheki Cele revealed the crime statistics for April and June 2022.
The national statistics paint a bleak picture of more than 6 400 people who were murdered nationwide during the three months.
The minister said this is an increase of 11.5% cases when compared to the same period last year.
Moving closer to home, Tsakani Police Station dominated the charts locally, the only station in Kwatsaduza making it into the top 30 stations nationally.
In the rape category, the station registered 36 cases of rape, an increase from the 33 that were reported in the same period last year. The station is seated at position 24.
There were 135 cases of assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm reported. This is a decrease from the 140 that were reported during the same period last year. The station occupies position 22.
The station occupies the last position in the top 30 stations nationally, with 42 cases reported in carjacking, seeing a case difference of one from the same term last year.
One case of robbery of cash in transit was registered at the station, which is the first in the last two years. The station occupies position 25 in the top 30 stations nationally.
There were 106 cases of contact-related crimes reported with a difference of 48. This is an increase from the 58 that was reported in the same term last year.
Five cases of arson were reported at the station, which is seated at position 24 in the top 30 stations nationally.
The 103 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs reported were registered with a case difference of 15 from the same term last year.
