Cable thief sentenced to seven years in prison

The Kempton Park Regional court has found the cable theft perpetrator guilty.

Kwatsaduza – Cable theft criminal gets sentenced to seven years imprisonment for tampering and damaging essential infrastructure.
This follows the successful arrest and sentencing of the to-be cable thief at the Kempton Park Regional Court on July 26.
The case presented by the city’s law enforcement structures working with private security companies led to the conviction of Clement Ngwenya, an illegal immigrant from Zimbabwe, residing in Thembisa, Winnie Mandela Zone 2.

Ngwenya was found guilty and sentenced to prison for tampering with essential infrastructure.
The metro’s spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said, “Upon arrest, the suspect was caught digging a trench along the wall of Safari Lodge on Pomona Road, where a municipal cable lay, near Kempton Park in June 2021.
“The suspect had left a spade, pick and a box cutter on the crime scene, which was used as tangible evidence to build a solid case against the suspect.
“The city reiterates its stance of zero tolerance on vandalism and tampering with essential infrastructure and affirms that law will take its cause on perpetrators,” stated Dlamini.
