Detective’s dedication recognised

Warrant Officer Bobe Nene is one of the hard working detectives in Ekurhuleni.

Tsakani – Warrant Officer Bobe Nene from the Tsakani SAPS was one of the detectives in the Ekurhuleni district recognised for his diligent work and awarded a certificate during an award ceremony held by the district last Friday.

Detectives were rewarded for their thorough investigations and good convictions of the cases allocated to them.

Most of the accused received hefty sentences from 15 years to life imprisonment. This is one of many awards Nene received during his 33 years of experience as a cop.

He said it feels good to receive recognition for his hard work.

“Each award I have received over the years encourages me to work hard to fight crime and remove criminals from our streets,” he said.

In 2018, he received the award for the best detective in Ekurhuleni.

Nene joined the police force on April 3, 1989, as a student constable at Grootvlei Police Station in Mpumalanga.

“I passed my matric and there were no available resources for me to study further. I identified that there was an opening for growth in the SAPS.

“After three years of in-service I attended the six-month training to qualify to be a police officer,” he explained.

Three years later he was promoted to the position of sergeant and then a warrant officer in 1995.

In 2003 he took a transfer to Vryheid Police Station and that same year he joined the stock theft unit, until April 2015 when he moved to the Tsakani Police Station.

When he arrived in Tsakani he was placed in the general detective unit. Detective work was not his first love, even though he qualified to do the work.

“I enjoyed working and fighting crime in the street but the station commander encouraged me that I would do better in the detective department,” he said.

In 2016 he was approached to join the trio task team which was newly formed.

“The unit was set to fight car jackings, robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms,” said Nene.

Nene urged victims of crime to report cases to the police and provide them with information that will help the police solve the crime.

He further urged motorists to refrain from leaving important documents in their cars, especially car registration documents and identity documents.
