Shops shut as Operation Dudula comes to Springs

Operational Dudula wants to rid Springs CBD of illegal immigrants

Operation Dudula Kwatsaduza branch members walked through the streets of Springs CBD on Thursday.

The Kwatsaduza branch wants the community to know that it is ready for action.

“We are here to make the public aware that we are alive and vigilant.
“We want to take back the town from illegal immigrants.
“We want illegal shop owners and employees to know that we are coming for them,” explained Reginald Msibi, the regional chairperson.
When asked how the organisation knows which shop owners are illegal and which are not, Msibi said they work with law enforcement.

“We are not vigilantes!” he said.
Many shop owners chose to close their doors as the group marched through the town.
“I don’t trust them. I think that some of them would steal from us, even if we can prove that we are not here illegally,” said a salon owner who admitted that he was not born in the country.
He will not be named for fear of victimisation.
Msibi said people’s mentality about Operation Dudula is flawed.
“If you are not guilty, then you have nothing to be afraid of,” he added.

The group walked through the streets of Springs on Thursday to sniff out whom they believe is responsible for the town’s rot.

Msibi explained that when the organisation is ready to uproot those believed to be dragging the town through the mud, they will come with officials from the Department of Home Affairs.
“We will verify their identities and find out who is undocumented,” he said.
Msibi said Operation Dudula has many programmes in the pipeline.
