Another MMC resigns from top position

Corporate and Shared Services MMC resigns

Cracks are starting to show in the multi-party leadership led by the DA in the City of Ekurhuleni, with two MMCs having tendered their resignations just six months on the job.
The MMC of Finance and Economic Development, Graham Gersbach, and MMC of Cooperate and Shared Services Ruhan Robinson have thrown in the towel.
The differences in leadership and principles between Mayor Tania Campbell and the MMCs are said to be the reasons behind the resignations.
On Tuesday, two days before the City’s budget speech, Robinson submitted his resignation stating that he will be moving on to become a member of the provincial Legislature in Gauteng.

Two weeks ago Gersbach tendered his resignation after he leaked a draft copy of the IDP report with other councillors after it was agreed that only the finalised copy would be made public.
He explained that he shared the draft because he believes in transparency and wanted other members of the council to have access to the draft to make changes accordingly.
It is alleged the mayor was not happy with Gersbach’s actions and held him accountable but he refused to back down from his stance and decided to step down from the top position.
“I did what I believed was the right thing to do, but the mayor was not happy with my actions. My principled decisions were not in line with the mayor’s views, this was not the first time that I was told I was wrong for my actions so I decided to resign,” he explained.
In a statement released by the mayor’s office, Campbell confirmed that she has received and accepted the resignation of the two MMCs from office.
She has appointed Fanyana Nkosi to replace Gersbach and Brendon Pretorius to replace Robinson.“The new appointments will maintain the administration’s stability and ensure that we continue delivering quality public services,” she explained.
