Duduza residents take to the streets

Schools, businesses, public transport and roads have been blocked, preventing movement in the area.

Duduza – Scores of residents have been arrested amid an electricity load reduction protest in Duduza on Monday morning.
On Friday night, residents took to the streets demanding for Eskom to restore their electricity.

Disgruntled residents took to the streets, demanding for their power to be restored.

Schools, businesses, public transport and roads have been blocked, preventing movement in the area.
Ward councillor Nsizwa Mekgwe confirmed that they are in talks with the power supplier and hope to resolve the matter before things get out of hand.

Large rocks and burning tyres were used to block some of the main roads in Duduza.

Duduza police spokesperson Sgt Harry Manaka said the arrested suspects are charged with public violence and will appear in the Nigel Magistrate’s court.
