Police wage war on drugs in schools

“We want to make the schools a safe environment for educators and learners to enable teaching and learning.”

Tsakani- Tsakani police are concerned about learners mixing cold drinks, allergy syrup and cough mixtures to make an intoxicating cocktail.
This was discovered during a school search campaign carried out at Buhlebemfundo Secondary School and Geluksdal Secondary School on Wednesday.
The police were joined by the Department of Community Safety, Gauteng Department of Education, EMPD, EMPD K9, Gauteng Traffic Police and the CPF led by the Social Crime Prevention Unit.
Tsakani police spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu said the random searches are part of the school safety programme to remove drugs and dangerous weapons from the schools.

“One learner was found in possession of alcohol. We also found dagga abandoned on the school grounds,” she explained.
Police would like to advise parents to not let learners take the medication with them to school unless it is essential for the learner to have their medication during school hours, but it should be brought to the attention of the educators.
