Primary school teacher suspended for sexual assault allegations

“I immediately made contact with the school to report the matter to the school principal, who promised to inform the district office.”

Tsakani – A Langaville Primary School teacher has recently been suspended for allegedly sexually violating some of his Grade Five learners.
It is alleged the teacher would force his learners to massage his hands and feet and would later force them to sit on his lap during classes.

An angry mother, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the learner, explained she was surprised when her daughter returned from school earlier than usual three weeks ago.
When she questioned her daughter’s reason, she told her she was scared of her teacher who punishes her for not doing her schoolwork.
With further interrogation, the learner told her mother she doesn’t do her schoolwork in class because the teacher forces her and another learner to massage him during lessons.
“I immediately made contact with the school to report the matter to the school principal, who promised to inform the district office.
“In the meeting with the district office on June 9, I was promised my daughter and the other victims would receive counselling, but weeks later nothing had been said.
“My daughter is scared to go to school. I have to accompany her every morning to ensure her safety,” she said.
She pleaded with the department to help her daughter get over the trauma.
“She is now a shadow of herself, experiences nightmares and barely concentrates on anything,” she added.

Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson Steve Mabona said the investigation regarding these allegations are underway.
“A community leader, Bafana Mazibuko, promised to provide us with a list of the learners who had been allegedly sexually assaulted.
“It is only after this list is provided that we can request consent from parents to interview the affected learners.
“To date, nothing has been received from the community leader and we have not received a statement or incriminating evidence from the alleged learners involved,” he explained.
He added there was also a meeting arranged with community leaders, but they did not show up.
The educator has been removed from the school for his safety until investigations are completed.
