Resident encourages others to start small gardens

His garden produces spinach and strawberries which he sells for profit.

Kwa-Thema – Steven Mulovhezi is encouraging unemployed residents to use the little spaces they have in their homes to plant vegetables and earn an income.
He said the little they can make from this will ensure their families are fed at the end of the day.
“Since the hard lockdown, many people lost their jobs and are struggling to feed their families.
“They have turned into beggars but this should not be the case,” he explained.
Mulovhezi lost his job as a security guard three years ago but refused to sit around for a long time.

He turned a little space in his yard into gold; his garden produces wild spinach and strawberries that he sells for profit.
“I turn dirt which I collect from dumping sites into manure. This is a skill I was taught by my father who was a tobacco farmer.
“My family of seven has never gone to bed on an empty stomach,” he said.
He added he wishes he had a bigger space in which to grow his garden to be able to produce more.
“I feel bad when my customers turn back because there isn’t anything for me to sell,” he added.
