Keamogetswe M Foundation hosts soccer and netball tournament

"We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about the progress of our communities."

Kwa-Thema – Keamogetswe M Foundation held a soccer and netball tournament on Workers’ Day at Bulithando Park.
Youth gathered to interact through sports and had fun on the day.
Twenty-three-year-old Keamogetswe Masike, the founder, said his team renovated the tennis courts by painting them a few days before the tournament.

“It’s so sad to see sports facilities in Kwa-Thema no longer serving its purpose.
“They’ve turned into dumpsites and crime scenes due to lack of maintenance. Without project sustainability, there can never be community development,” said Masike.
Masike said one of the goals of the foundation is the improvement of infrastructure for public use, and they try by all means to renovate some sports facilities.

The aim of the tournament was not only to play sports but to talk about youth crime reduction, improving health and forming unity.
“The biggest goal from this project was to empower women. We cannot have seminars speaking about stopping gender-based violence without action.
“We have contributed 500 sanitary towels that will be donated to Grade Nine girls; however, we are still searching for a school to which to donate,” said Masike.

The Zest Netball Club was on top of its game and was victorious.

Masike mentioned they aimed to host 16 soccer teams and eight netball teams, but only eight soccer and four netball teams participated.
All the teams received certificates and all the players received medals.
“4 Butter Stars FC won the top eight soccer tournament and Zest Netball Club won their tournament,” he said.
Soccer referee Lebo Matlala and netball referee Naledi Moagi were delighted that the tournament was a success.
Masike said they’re thankful to the City of Ekurhuleni, the provincial Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Savemore and officials from different sporting codes for acknowledging their efforts.

“We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about the progress of our communities.
“It’s always a humbling experience to witness our projects becoming a success and having a positive impact in the lives of young people,” he said.
The foundation has held food and pad drives.
“Feeding over 3 000 families in Kwa-Thema and other communities in Ekurhuleni and assisting underprivileged families remains our core assignment.
“We are planning to have a morning breakfast drive to all identified primary schools that are under-supported.
“We know some of the children go to school without having anything to eat due to circumstances,” added Masike.
