Gogo in good heath at 104

“I had great respect for my elders when I was young. I believe that is what has kept me going.”

Violet Molefe celebrated her 104th birthday on Thursday with family and friends.
“I had great respect for my elders when I was young. I believe that is what has kept me going,” she explained.
Gogo Violet had nine children and 24 grandchildren.
“I have lost count of how many great-grandchildren I have,” she laughed.
She said she has lived in Kwa-Thema for so long she does not even remember how long ago it was.

Gogo Violet lived in Payneville before they were moved.
“When I started working, my mother told me to give my first pay to my uncle.
“My second pay went to her. After that, I could enjoy my salary.
“But the blessing that came from them has sustained me,” she said.

Gogo Violet Molefe is 104 years old and still going strong.

Gogo Violet said she was quite active in sports while she was at school.
“That helped my body to be healthy.
“I wish I could still do all the things I was able to when I was younger,” she said.

She wishes to instil all good characteristics in young people, especially respect.
“I teach all of them the same thing. Respect your elders!
“You have to greet anyone you see on the streets,” she said.

Members of the Ratanang Elderly Organisation and Violet Molefe’s family helped celebrate the momentous milestone.

Nomvula Sibanyoni, the founder of Ratanang Elderly Organisation, of which Molofe is a member, said the organisation had to make the celebration a success.
“I always want them to feel special and we are forever grateful to the people who sponsor our events,” said Sibanyoni.
