Service delivery remains an issue in Tsakani

A group of concerned residents said they have been without development for 31 years.

Tsakani – Lack of service delivery and development has angered residents of Extension Eight.
A group of concerned residents said they have been without development for 31 years.
They are complaining about a lack of tarred roads, speed humps and shortage of stormwater drains.
Speaking on behalf of the group was Bonikie Nkele.

“We have been engaging with leadership without any success. A lot of promises have been made but to date, we are still waiting for action to be taken.
“Following a protest we had last year, the feedback we received from the ward councillor was that she was waiting for the budget plan,” said Nkele.
According to the residents, they signed petitions and held public meetings but their grievances remain unattended.
“In her entire term, only two tarred roads have been implemented in Extension 11 and 12.
“We need at least one street per year to also ease the flow of water when it rains.
“We need proper streets, speed humps and there must be more drains for water when it rains.
“We do not have enough drains and our roads are not tarred, so when it rains the water from the main road comes directly into our homes and damages our belongings,” Nkele explained.

They said the situation is affecting their daily lives.
“Ext Eight is the oldest section in the councillor’s ward, but we are not being prioritised.
“We are the most affected when it comes to not receiving any service delivery,” said Nkele.
The City of Ekurhuleni and Ward 112 Clr Nomalanga Annah Mnguni had not responded to media enquiries by the time African Reporter went to print.
