DIY trail mix recipe: The perfect lunchbox choice

Trail mix is such an easy and delicious snack to make at home with just a few key ingredients.

Are you looking for something healthy to add to your child’s lunchbox? Trail mix is a combination of dried fruits and nuts and a great lunch box snack for the whole family. While store-bought trail mix can have lots of hidden sugar, making your own ensures only the best and healthiest ingredients are put into the mix. Best of all, making your own trail mix is easy and relatively inexpensive. Use the following ingredients and quantities as a guideline, and mix according to taste.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup banana chips
  • ½ cup pumpkin seed
  • ½ cup sunflower seeds
  • ½ cup macadamia nuts, almonds, or pecan nuts (optional)
  • 1 cup dried, chopped mango
  • 1  cup dried, chopped apricots
  • 1 cup cranberries
  • ½ cup shredded coconut

Method

Toss together and store in an airtight container for snacks.

Good to know: Nuts are packed with heart-healthy fats.
