Clinic to host Men’s Wellness Day

Clinic operational manager Smangele Hlatshwayo explained the purpose is to encourage man to visit their local clinics.

Kwatsaduza – Nokuthela Ngwenya Community Health Centre has partnered with CanSurvive for a Men’s Wellness Day.
The event will take place on Saturday from 8am.
The initiative is set to continue every second week of the month.
It was introduced by the organisation last year when they first partnered with the Kwa-Thema Main Clinic.
Clinic operational manager Smangele Hlatshwayo explained the purpose is to encourage man to visit their local clinics.

“Men are half as likely as women to visit the clinic. They wait for the worse to happen before they take action.
“This is why we are embarking on this initiative to motivate them to come for regular check-ups,” she said.
For the event, there will be a separate venue where men will get screened and tested.
“Another issue we have noted is queuing and asking for assistance from female nurses.
“On Saturday for this event, we will have male nurses working the clock.
“We want men to be comfortable and seek the medical care they need,” she added.
CanSurvive chairperson Ronnie Nkabinde said they saw it fitting to expand and reach other areas.

“We as an organisation want to ensure that every person becomes responsible for their health.
“These initiatives play an important part in sending the message across and in encouraging men in society to take care of themselves by having regular check-ups while having the privacy they so desperately seek.
“They will also realise that visiting the clinic isn’t as scary as they might imagine,” he said.
The male community is invited to attend and services offered include testing and screening for HIV/Aids, high blood pressure, sugar diabetes, tuberculosis, prostate cancer, blood glucose and other health-related diseases and viruses.
This project will cover men from Duduza, part of Tsakani, Dunnottar, Sharon Park, Alrapark and Nigel.
