Saturday school to assist learners

The programme aims to assist learners in Grades 10, 11 and 12 who are struggling or looking to improve in maths, physical science, accounting and maths literacy.

Kwa-Thema – Intuthuko Development Programme will be open from 8am to 9am for registrations on March 6 and 13.
Thereafter, classes will commence from 9am on Saturday.
The programme aims to assist learners in Grades 10, 11 and 12 who are struggling or looking to improve in maths, physical science, accounting and maths literacy. A registration fee of R50 is charged.
The programme was established in 2015 by Sibusiso Makhanya, who is an educator at Kwa-Thema Community Learning Centre.

“I have been teaching maths for the past 10 years. The purpose of the programme is to help learners understand the principles of these subjects we offer.
“Build confidence among learners, while changing their attitudes towards these subjects. In the end, this will help improve their results,” said Mkhanya.
Since its inception, it have maintained a pass rate between 95 and 100 per cent.
“Last year even though we were affected by the pandemic we managed to get a 100 per cent pass rate. One of our learners, Senamile Mtshali from Kenneth Masikela, obtained 96 and 99 per cent in maths and accounting respectively,” he said.

Classes take place at Lefa-Ifa Secondary School on the corner of Sam Ngema and Joe Mzamane roads.
“Due to lack of sponsorship, we are forced to charge a small amount to keep the programme going.
“However, it is merely for admin purposes and gathering of stationery. We would appreciate sponsors or donations from the community,” added Mkhanya.
