Tsakani youth aims to create employment

This youth-driven courier service company was established by a group of friends from Tsakani because of unemployment.

Tsakani – To reach one million clients and create everlasting job opportunities is the dream of movers and shakers Thuma Mina Express Services, who are slowly becoming a household name within Ekurhuleni.

This youth-driven courier service company was established by a group of friends from Tsakani because of unemployment.

They do deliveries and collections – anything from groceries, drop-offs, fast food, mail and making electricity payments, all at a reasonable fee.

“We want to have footprints in the entire Ekurhuleni region.

“The goal is to be able to provide effective and excellent service to our clients while playing a part in curbing unemployment and to play among big brands,” said founder Thabang Dlamini.

Thuma Mina is an isiZulu expression for ‘send me’.

“We deliver almost everything, except anything illegal.

“When we started our services we were only based in Tsakani, but now we are catering for the entire Kwatsaduza area.

“We started with only five bicycles, but now we have five scooters and 10 bicycles,” explained chief operations manager Bonginkosi Dlamini.

The duo said one of their biggest challenges at the moment is forming partnerships with big companies.

“These big companies are reluctant to work with us and that to us is time-consuming.

“Once we get to where our client has sent us, whether for collections or making payments, standing in queues is time-consuming.
“We want to get there collect and just leave, which is proving to be a bit of a challenge,” they said.

They are inviting unemployed youth to join their company.

Last year they took in 10 unemployed youth for a development programme, which led to those intakes obtaining driver’s licences for motorbikes.

“Everything we do is for the community.

“Also, it is important for young people to learn how to take care of the community so the community can take care of them,” said Thabang.
