“Not having lights in this entire section has made living here challenging. We as the residents do not feel safe in our own homes and we even fear for the lives of our children. There have been so many break-ins and house robberies,” she explained.
On Saturday, a group of unidentified men broke into a neighbour’s home.
Another resident, Peter Mosiya (65), expressed how street lights could help prevent crime in the area.
“Lights can make a huge difference in the ordinary lives of citizens. It will help us feel safe and protected. Hopefully it will also help us fight crime.”

Isaac Maseko, one of the residents who helped draft the petitions, said service delivery is proving to be inefficient.
“We have been raising the same challenges over and over without any success, and each and every time we are given the run-around.
“The last petition we submitted was in December last year. We also spoke to the councillor about the matter but to date he hasn’t gotten back to us.
“Our safety as residents is not prioritised. What we need is proper working street lights, street humps and trees,” he stated.
